Custom Cabinetry in DuPage County

Cabinets define a room more than any other single element. They set the style, control the storage, and determine whether your kitchen, bathroom, or living space actually works for you. At Turn Key Designs, we design and install custom and semi-custom cabinetry for every room in the house. Every cabinet is designed to fit your space exactly, built with furniture-grade construction, and installed by our own team.

Custom vs. Semi-Custom vs. Stock

Understanding the difference helps you make the right investment. The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) reports that cabinetry typically accounts for 30 to 40 percent of a kitchen remodel budget, making this one of the most important material decisions in any project.

Stock cabinets are pre-manufactured in standard sizes with limited door styles and finishes. Delivery is fast and cost is low, but you are designing around the cabinet instead of the other way around. Stock cabinets use particleboard construction and basic hardware. We do not install stock cabinets because the quality and fit do not meet our standards.

Semi-custom cabinets use standard box dimensions with customizable door styles, finishes, interior accessories, and modified sizing. This is the strong middle ground and is what most of our projects use. Semi-custom manufacturers like Kraftmaid, Yorktowne, and Medallion offer hundreds of configurations with solid construction, soft-close hardware, and finish options that rival full custom at a lower price point. Our custom cabinets vs. stock cabinets guide covers the differences in detail.

Fully custom cabinets are built from scratch to your exact specifications. Any size, any material, any configuration. Inset doors with furniture-grade joinery, specialized storage solutions, curved elements, and finishes matched to an existing piece of furniture. For clients who want something no catalog offers, fully custom is the path. Lead times are longer and costs are higher, but the result is cabinetry that is built specifically for your space and your requirements.

What We Build

Kitchen Cabinetry

Wall cabinets, base cabinets, islands, pantry towers, appliance garages, spice pull-outs, lazy Susans, drawer dividers, and integrated organizational accessories. Kitchen cabinets are our highest-volume category and the area where design precision matters most. Our custom kitchen cabinet page goes deeper into door styles, configurations, and construction standards specific to kitchen applications.

Bathroom Vanities

Single, double, floating, and furniture-style vanities in custom and semi-custom construction. Bathroom cabinetry requires moisture-resistant finishes, sealed interiors, and hardware rated for humid environments. We design vanity configurations with functional storage: drawer organizers, pull-out trays, built-in electrical outlets for styling tools, and countertop materials selected for wet-environment performance. See our full bathroom remodeling capabilities.

Built-In Cabinetry

Entertainment centers, home office built-ins, window seats with storage, mudroom lockers, dining room buffets, and library walls. Built-in cabinets are constructed to fit your exact space, wall to wall and floor to ceiling, with no gaps and no wasted inches. We template every wall and account for the irregularities that exist in every DuPage County home.

Pantry Systems

Walk-in pantry shelving and cabinetry, butler’s pantry configurations, and floor-to-ceiling pull-out pantry towers that let you see everything at a glance. Pantry design is where organizational thinking meets construction precision. The right shelf spacing, door configuration, and pull-out hardware make the difference between a pantry that works and one that becomes a cluttered afterthought.

Closet Systems

Walk-in and reach-in closet cabinetry with double hanging, shelving, drawers, shoe storage, and accessory organization. We design closet systems based on what you actually own and how you use the space, not generic templates.

Laundry Room Cabinetry

Upper and lower cabinets, countertop folding surfaces, hanging rods, and sorting stations. A well-designed laundry room with proper cabinetry transforms one of the least enjoyable household tasks into something manageable.

Construction Quality

Every cabinet we install meets these minimum specifications:

  • Plywood box construction (3/4-inch sides, 1/2-inch back). No particleboard.
  • Full-extension, soft-close drawer slides from Blum or equivalent manufacturer
  • Concealed European hinges with six-way adjustment and soft-close
  • Dovetail drawer box construction on all drawers
  • Adjustable shelving on metal shelf pins
  • Factory-finished interiors

The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) certification program sets industry standards for cabinet construction quality. We specify cabinetry that meets or exceeds KCMA performance standards for structural integrity, drawer operation, door functionality, and finish durability.

Our Showroom

Cabinet decisions should not be made from a screen. In our Lombard showroom at 219 S Main Street, you can open cabinet doors and feel the difference between a stamped hinge and a soft-close European hinge. Pull out a full-extension drawer and see how a dovetail joint is constructed. Compare painted, stained, and thermofoil finishes under showroom lighting. Run your hand across a shaker door and then an inset door and feel the difference in construction. The showroom is open for scheduled visits and is free to explore.

Design Integration

Cabinetry is never designed in isolation. The cabinet finish, door style, and hardware must coordinate with your countertops, flooring, backsplash, wall color, and lighting. Our interior design team develops a unified material palette that ensures every element in the room works together. This is especially important in open-concept spaces where the kitchen cabinetry is visible from the living and dining areas.
