Wheaton’s larger homes often have closets that should be spacious but are not. A 6-by-8-foot walk-in with a single rod and shelf wastes most of its potential. Custom closet design transforms that same space into an organized system where everything has a place and nothing gets buried in the back corner.

Turn Key Designs is a design-build firm based in Lombard, about 15 minutes from Wheaton. We design and build custom closet systems for walk-ins, reach-ins, linen closets, mudrooms, pantries, and any other storage space in your home.

Closet Solutions for Wheaton Homes

Wheaton’s housing stock includes older Victorians near downtown, mid-century ranches, and newer construction. Each era presents different closet challenges:

  • Older homes near downtown often have tiny closets or none at all. We design creative built-in solutions that add storage without sacrificing room square footage, using wall-mounted systems and built-in cabinets that blend with the home’s architectural character.
  • Mid-century ranches typically have small reach-in closets with a single rod. We redesign these with tiered hanging sections, pull-out drawers, and adjustable shelving that triple the usable space.
  • Newer homes often have walk-in closets that are poorly configured. We redesign these with double-hang sections, shoe walls, accessory drawers, and integrated lighting.

Design Features

Every custom closet we build for Wheaton homeowners is designed around how you actually use the space. Common features include:

  • Double-hang rods for shirts, blouses, and folded pants
  • Full-length hanging sections for dresses, coats, and long garments
  • Adjustable shelving that can be reconfigured as your wardrobe changes
  • Pull-out drawers with soft-close slides for folded items, accessories, and jewelry
  • Dedicated shoe storage with angled shelves or pull-out racks
  • Hamper pullouts built into the cabinetry
  • LED strip lighting for visibility in deeper sections

Materials

Our systems use commercial-grade melamine and plywood construction, not the wire shelving found at hardware stores. Finish options include white, gray, wood-grain, and painted finishes to match your interior design scheme. Hardware is soft-close throughout, with chrome or brushed nickel rod and hook options. All materials are selected at our Lombard showroom.

Closets Within Larger Projects

Custom closets are a natural component of many larger Wheaton projects. A home addition with a new master suite needs a well-designed walk-in. A bathroom renovation can free up space for a better linen closet. A whole-home remodel is the ideal time to address storage throughout the house. The National Association of Home Builders ranks closet and storage space among the features homebuyers value most.
